Amazon Web Services has unveiled Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Payments, a real-time stablecoin payment infrastructure that lets autonomous AI agents make purchases independently — built in partnership with Coinbase and Stripe. The first version targets micropayments for APIs, data feeds, and paywalled content, often at fractions of a cent, with plans to expand to hotel bookings, travel reservations, and merchant payments.
The system runs on Coinbase's x402 protocol, an HTTP-native standard for agent-to-agent stablecoin transactions, while Stripe's Privy wallet handles the payment connection. AWS describes the broader goal as enabling an "agentic economy" where AI agents act as independent economic actors inside a single execution loop. Warner Bros. Discovery is already testing the platform, citing potential for agent-driven premium content transactions including live sports.
