House Agriculture Committee Chair Glenn Thompson and Ranking Member Angie Craig sent a joint letter to President Trump on Friday urging him to nominate a full bipartisan slate of CFTC commissioners. The agency has operated with a single commissioner — Chairman Michael Selig — since December, leaving four seats vacant at a moment when crypto market structure legislation is moving fast.
The letter arrived one day after the Senate Banking Committee advanced the CLARITY Act in a 15-9 bipartisan vote, a margin that signals genuine cross-aisle appetite for a legislative framework governing digital asset markets. A fully staffed CFTC would be positioned to implement whatever rulemaking authority the Act eventually grants the agency.
