Circle Faces 20% Revenue Risk as AI Agents Shift USDC

Mizuho's warning links Circle's earnings model to where AI assistants direct cash, with USDC holders potentially moving into fiat products or higher-yielding stablecoins.

Circle shares closed down 7% at $79.84 after Mizuho cut its price target for the USDC issuer to $43 from $45. The brokerage kept an Underperform rating and said AI personal assistant engines pose a marked risk to Circle's medium-term revenue, implying 46% downside from the stock's close.

Mizuho estimates wider AI-agent adoption could reduce USDC's market capitalization by $4 billion to $9 billion and cut Circle's reserve revenue by 10% to 20%. Its simulation found that agents, including Muse, were likely to direct users toward higher-yielding FDIC-insured accounts such as SoFi savings products, or toward other platforms when users preferred to remain in crypto.

Why it matters

Circle earns reserve revenue from the assets backing USDC, while holders do not receive yield directly on Circle's platform. As of the second quarter, about 17% of USDC was held on Circle's platform, compared with 30% on Coinbase and 53% on other platforms. That distribution leaves Circle exposed if AI assistants increasingly decide where users hold cash and stablecoins.

Mizuho's faster-adoption scenario projects roughly $7 billion moving into fiat products and another $2 billion into higher-yielding stablecoins. The result would be a USDC market-cap reduction of up to $9 billion and an 18% decline in Circle's reserve revenue.

Market impact

The analysts lowered their 2027 average USDC circulation forecast to $101 billion from $108 billion. Their reserve-revenue estimate fell to $4.1 billion from $4.3 billion, while adjusted EBITDA declined to $603 million from $635 million.

The risk comes as Circle's network remains large. The company reported roughly $1.4 billion in revenue in the first half of 2026, more than $36 trillion in USDC onchain settlement volume, and a 77% share of global stablecoin transaction volume by June. The market question is whether that transaction lead can translate into durable reserve revenue if AI agents redirect where users keep funds.
