HTX has exited the UK after settling the FCA’s financial-promotions case. UK customers can no longer deposit or trade, and new users cannot register. Eligible existing customers must request approval for a one-time 48-hour window to withdraw remaining assets.
Why it matters
The withdrawal process is conditional, not automatic. Users must contact HTX support from their registered email, confirm personal use and pass checks covering identity, account ownership, sanctions, anti-money laundering, fraud and account security. The applicable Personal Remittances General Licence also sets conditions and limits, and each transaction remains subject to destination-wallet, blockchain and security controls. HTX will not transfer assets on users’ behalf and says accounts will close after withdrawals are complete.
The legal commitments extend beyond the UK service exit. An Oct. 27 High Court order records Huobi Global S.A.’s undertakings through Oct. 21, 2031 against knowingly communicating, or arranging the communication of, financial promotions that breach section 21 of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. They cover HTX websites, applications and social media. The date does not establish when trading could resume.
Market impact
The FCA says the settlement terms are confidential and involve no admission of liability or wrongdoing. The regulator began proceedings on Oct. 21, 2025, and announced the action on Feb. 10, 2026, describing it at the time as its first enforcement action against a crypto firm for illegally marketing products to UK consumers. It also sought to block HTX social accounts for UK users and remove its apps from UK app stores.
Huobi Global S.A.’s separate designation under the UK’s Russia sanctions regime in May 2026 is distinct from the promotions case. Under the court order, proceedings are stayed except for enforcement, and either party can ask the court to enforce the settlement without filing a new claim.
