MetaMask Launches Agent Wallet for AI Bots on Ethereum

MetaMask on Monday launched Agent Wallet, a non-custodial wallet purpose-built for AI agents to transact autonomously across the Ethereum ecosystem — supporting swaps, perps, prediction markets, and liquidity provisioning across a suite of EVM chains and Hyperliquid. The product is rolling out via command-line interface to a limited early-access cohort, with general availability slated for later this summer.

Every transaction will be mandatory-simulated against preset rules set by each user, including daily spend limits and allow lists. Blockaid will additionally scan for scams and other threats, triggering a 2FA push or email when a transaction falls outside the user's preset standards. Transactions deemed safe will be covered up to $10,000 by MetaMask's existing Transaction Protection, subject to terms and conditions.

Why it matters

"The next great expansion of the onchain economy won't be driven by humans alone," Consensys founder Joe Lubin said in the announcement. "Machine intelligences will increasingly transact, coordinate, and verify one another on crypto rails because crypto protocols are uniquely well designed for autonomous actors."

The framing matters: Consensys is positioning MetaMask — which Token Terminal pegs at roughly 26% of the wallet market — as the rails for agentic finance rather than a passive retail app. Agent Wallet ships framework-agnostic, compatible with OpenClaw, OpenAI Codex, Claude Code, Nous Research Hermes Agent, Cursor, and other providers, meaning any developer building an agent can plug into the same self-custody stack humans already use.

Market impact

The move lands in a crowded field. Gemini recently opened agentic-trading APIs that let AI bots manage exchange accounts directly; Trust Wallet (under CZ) launched AI agents that can execute trades; Tether and Oobit rolled out AI-agent Visa corporate expense cards.
