Telegram founder Pavel Durov has announced that the TON ecosystem will rename its native token from TON to Gram. The rebrand is expected to roll out over the next three weeks, with wallets, infrastructure providers, and ecosystem applications gradually adopting the new name. The Open Network blockchain itself retains its existing name — only the token's branding changes.
The distinction matters for users and developers tracking the ecosystem: the network, its tooling, and its documentation will continue to operate under the TON banner, while the tradeable asset will shift to the Gram ticker. The name Gram carries historical weight — it was the original token name from Telegram's 2018 ICO before the SEC shut down that offering, making this a symbolic reclamation of sorts.
For holders and integrators, the practical impact is limited to UI and labelling updates across wallets and exchanges over the three-week window. No protocol changes or token swaps are involved.
