XRP Ledger Prepares Batch V1.1 for Asset Managers

With 30 of 35 tracked validators backing the amendment, activation depends on maintaining 80% support through a 14-day countdown after a major security redesign.

Ripple says asset managers and other commercial projects are preparing for XRP Ledger Batch V1.1, a feature that can group up to eight transactions into one all-or-nothing operation. The amendment is backed by 30 of the ledger's 35 tracked validators, above the 28 votes needed to start its activation countdown. If support stays at or above 80%, the upgrade is projected to activate shortly after Sept. 29.

Batch V1.1 is designed for transactions where multiple legs must settle together. In delivery-versus-payment, for example, an asset transfer and its payment can either both complete or both be canceled, reducing the risk that one side settles while the other fails. Exchanges, wallets and marketplaces could also bundle customer payments with service fees in a single operation.

Why it matters

The upgrade targets a core requirement for institutional and commercial settlement: atomic execution. Asset managers and other financial projects can build around a process that does not require one party to send first or rely on separate transfers to complete a transaction.

RippleX engineering head Ayo Akinyele said projects are already being built with Batch in mind, while specific partners and launch timing will be shared after plans are finalized. That puts the focus on whether the feature can move from ledger capability to production use across payments and asset markets.

Market impact

Activation is conditional. Validators can change their votes, and support below 80% would stop the countdown and require a new 14-day window after the threshold is restored.

The feature also carries a stronger security process than its predecessor. Developers withdrew Batch V1.0 after finding a critical signature-validation flaw before activation, so the vulnerable code never governed the live XRP Ledger and no funds were exposed. Batch V1.1 was redesigned and reviewed through adversarial testing, AI-assisted analysis, a Sherlock attack contest and assessments by Halborn and Common Prefix.

Frequently asked questions

  1. What does XRP Ledger Batch V1.1 do?

Batch V1.1 can group up to eight XRP Ledger transactions into one operation. Its all-or-nothing mode makes every transaction succeed together or cancels the entire group.

  2. Why is Batch V1.1 useful for delivery-versus-payment?

It can link an asset transfer to its payment so both legs settle together or neither does. This reduces the risk that one side completes while the other fails.

  3. How could exchanges and wallets use the upgrade?

Exchanges, wallets and marketplaces could process service fees alongside customer payments in one grouped operation instead of using separate transfers.

  4. When could Batch V1.1 activate?

The feature is projected to activate shortly after Sept. 29 if validator support remains at or above 80% throughout the 14-day countdown.

  5. Why was the original Batch version withdrawn?

Researchers found a critical signature-validation flaw in Batch V1.0 before activation. The vulnerable code never governed the live XRP Ledger, and developers redesigned the implementation before returning it for a new vote.
