XRPL: Brazil Accounts for $2.7B in Reported Tokenized Assets

The concentration gives Ripple a major institutional foothold, but the new fund-share project will mirror records rather than replace Brazil's official securities register.

About $2.7 billion of the $6.7 billion in tokenized real-world financial assets counted on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) is in Brazil, RippleX executive Markus Infanger said in an interview with Estadão's E-Investidor. That is roughly 40% of the reported value, a measure of represented assets rather than payment activity. Ripple and regulated market infrastructure operator CSD BR have also announced a first phase to mirror ownership records for BTG Pactual investment fund shares on XRPL.

CSD BR's systems remain the official record for registration, deposit and settlement. The XRPL tokens and Ripple custody will be available only to authorized Brazilian corporate and banking participants subject to identity and anti-money-laundering checks.

Why it matters

Ripple's Brazilian relationships now span cross-border payments, custody, stablecoin distribution and investment records. It opened an office in the country in 2019 and later announced XRP-enabled payments with Travelex Bank. Mercado Bitcoin has since become part of its payments and stablecoin network and announced plans to tokenize more than $200 million in permissioned real-world assets on XRPL.

Chainalysis ranked Brazil first in its 2026 grassroots crypto adoption index, though that ranking does not make it the largest market by dollar volume. Its report estimated $252.5 billion in Brazilian crypto activity for the year ended June 30, 2026, alongside a 1.6% contraction in the country's crypto economy.

Market impact

The CSD BR phase places XRPL inside an existing securities workflow without making it the authoritative register. Native issuance and trading are envisaged only after the mirroring phase is validated. Ripple's dollar stablecoin RLUSD also has support from Brazilian platforms, but the reported $2.7 billion asset figure does not measure RLUSD circulation or payment volume. Sustained use of the fund-share system will be a clearer test of how far Ripple's institutional relationships extend.

Frequently asked questions

  1. What does the reported $2.7 billion XRPL figure measure?

It is the value of tokenized real-world financial assets in Brazil that a RippleX executive counted on XRPL. It does not measure payment activity or RLUSD circulation.

  2. Will XRPL become the official register for BTG Pactual fund shares?

No. The first phase mirrors ownership records on XRPL, while CSD BR's systems remain the official record for registration, deposit and settlement.

  3. Who can access the CSD BR fund-share system on XRPL?

Access is restricted to authorized Brazilian corporate and banking participants subject to identity and anti-money-laundering checks.

  4. Does Brazil's top adoption ranking mean it has the largest crypto market?

No. Chainalysis ranked Brazil first for grassroots crypto adoption in 2026, not for raw dollar volume. It also estimated that Brazil's crypto economy contracted 1.6% over the measured year.

  5. What comes after the fund-share record-mirroring phase?

Native issuance and trading are envisaged after the mirroring phase is validated. Sustained institutional use would provide a clearer test of the system than represented asset value alone.
