Akash’s proposed move to Solana would end inflation-funded staking rewards when its marketplace cuts over, not when the new token launches. Proposal 346 remained open for voting until Nov. 2 at 15:02:58 GMT, and a separate proposal would set the cutover date. A draft emissions framework would still allow new AKT issuance for provider incentives and the community treasury, but its numerical parameters are unresolved.
The migration separates approval, token launch, marketplace cutover and the old chain’s eventual halt. If approved, SPL AKT and a one-way migration portal are expected to launch two to three weeks after passage, subject to token and portal audits. The marketplace would move later, after audits and migration rehearsals and approval of a separate cutover proposal. Old-chain inflation rewards would end at cutover; validator roles and income would end when the old chain halts, 90 days later.
The proposal describes a portal process that starts unbonding, claims rewards and queues migration after 21 days. Earlier technical and blog descriptions give different launch and unbonding timelines, so the user flow is not yet settled. Akash founder Greg Osuri said new staking mechanisms would be announced before cutover, but no replacement yield or payout formula has been published.
Why it matters
A 1:1 exchange would preserve eligible AKT balances at conversion, but would not preserve the income attached to staking them. Under the AEP-79 draft, new issuance could instead go to providers and the treasury. The proposed framework targets lower gross emissions, but the rate, decay, recipient split and cumulative cap still require modeling and governance. If the model is not ratified before the cutover supply snapshot, the design allows issuance to start at zero until governance activates it.
Compute-credit plans add another supply question. The roadmap’s ACT model describes a possible minting path if previously removed AKT is insufficient for payouts, while the proposed Solana design says AKT supplied for ACT stays in a collateral vault and expressly bars the BME program from minting.
Frequently asked questions
-
When would Akash’s current AKT staking rewards end?
The proposal would end old-chain inflation and staking rewards at marketplace cutover. Validator roles and income would end when the old chain halts, 90 days later.
-
Does a 1:1 AKT migration preserve staking income?
No. The 1:1 exchange concerns eligible token balances at conversion. It does not preserve the income attached to staking those balances.
-
What is known about future AKT emissions?
The draft allows new AKT issuance for provider incentives and the community treasury. The rate, decay, recipient split and cumulative cap remain unresolved.
-
How could the proposed Solana design handle ACT compute credits?
It specifies that AKT supplied for ACT stays in a collateral vault and bars the BME program from minting AKT. The roadmap describes a different possible minting path.
-
What happens if the emissions model is not approved before cutover?
The draft allows the issuance program to start with zero scheduled emissions and wait for governance activation if the model has not been ratified before the cutover supply snapshot.
