BitGo Launches Institutional Markets Unit With NYDIG Team

The unit combines spot liquidity, financing, derivatives and settlement, extending BitGo's institutional offering beyond custody and trading.

BitGo Holdings launched BitGo Global Markets, a business combining institutional trading, liquidity, financing, derivatives and settlement. Former NYDIG executive Pete Janney will lead the unit, which follows BitGo's Aug. 27 acquisition of NYDIG's institutional and trading business. About 30 employees joined BitGo in the deal, bringing expertise in derivatives, financing, collateral servicing and structured products.

Why it matters

The launch brings BitGo Prime, which has offered institutional trading since 2020, together with capabilities added through the NYDIG acquisition. BitGo says its Global Liquidity Layer will connect clients to spot trading and large over-the-counter transactions, drawing liquidity from exchanges, market makers and other counterparties.

The unit also offers borrowing against crypto holdings, with BitGo keeping collateral in qualified custody and monitoring margins, collateral calls and liquidations. Eligible counterparties can access options, swaps and custom structured products for hedging, expressing market views and managing portfolio risk. The business will also offer managed strategies, private funds and research, while BitGo's Go Network handles clearing and settlement.

Market impact

The broader pitch is an integrated suite for institutions that need more than custody or spot execution. Bringing financing, collateral management and derivatives under one business could support more complex institutional strategies, though the services are not all available to every client: derivatives and structured products are for eligible counterparties.

BTGO rose 3.4% in pre-market trading on Wednesday after gaining 3.7% on Tuesday, according to TradingView. The seed does not establish that the launch caused either move. Investors will be watching how BitGo develops the business and whether its expanded services attract institutional activity.
