Coinbase's Ethereum Layer 2 network Base has launched Base MCP, a new integration that connects users' crypto wallets and DeFi applications directly to AI clients like ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor via the Model Context Protocol. Through plain-language chat prompts, users can send funds, swap tokens, check balances and interact with DeFi protocols without ever touching a traditional crypto interface.
At launch, Base MCP supports integrations with Uniswap, Morpho, Moonwell and perpetuals platform Avantis — covering lending markets, liquidity vaults and derivatives trading. The bet is that conversational AI becomes the primary onboarding surface for crypto, abstracting away the wallet and protocol complexity that has historically kept mainstream users at arm's length.
"Base MCP is a first step toward making the onchain economy easier to use via AI," Coinbase said.
