Coinbase has fully restored trading on its exchange after an AWS-related outage pushed markets through a sequence of "Cancel Only" and auction modes for several hours on Friday. The disruption was traced to "increased temperatures" in AWS Availability Zone use1-az4 within the US-EAST-1 region.
The incident began around 21:00 ET on May 7, initially affecting Solana and ALEO transfers with delayed sends and receives. The situation escalated when Coinbase disabled market and limit orders across its platform, leaving resting orders cancelable but blocking new order entry. Markets were later moved into auction mode — where limit orders could be posted and indicative prices viewed — before full matching resumed.
