The change does not give Solana 17% more raw transaction capacity. Under SIMD-0525, the computation and data allowed in each slot fall by the same proportion as the slot duration. The faster clock creates operational trade-offs. Infrastructure must ingest and store more individual blocks, while applications that estimate time from hard-coded slot durations can drift. Blockhashes also expire sooner in real time, leaving less room for offline signing, delayed approvals and other human-dependent transaction flows.

Because an epoch remains fixed at 432,000 slots, its expected duration falls from roughly 36 hours to about 30 hours. A proposed 200-millisecond target would bring five slots per second and roughly 24-hour epochs, but it has no mainnet date.
