USDC Transfers Coming to 82 Million Samsung Galaxy Devices

Built into Samsung Wallet with no transfer fee from Samsung, the service could put stablecoin remittances in front of a vast consumer audience.

Samsung plans to add USDC transfers to Samsung Wallet for eligible U.S. Galaxy users, with the feature set to start in the last week of October across 82 million devices. Users will be able to send USDC to compatible external wallets, with Solana and Sui infrastructure operating behind the scenes.

Why it matters

The feature puts stablecoin transfers inside an existing mobile wallet rather than requiring a separate crypto app or self-management of private keys. Samsung says it will charge no fee for USDC transfers, though receiving wallets or exchanges may charge fees and transfer speeds will depend on network conditions. The service is being built with Bastion, a U.S.-licensed stablecoin custodian.

Samsung also plans transfers to eligible bank accounts in more than 60 countries, with recipients paid in local currency. Fees on this route may vary by destination, and availability is subject to local requirements.

Market impact

The rollout extends Samsung's partnership with Coinbase, which will custody USDC held in Samsung Wallet through Coinbase Prime. The companies previously enabled U.S. Galaxy users to fund Coinbase accounts with Samsung Pay.

For USDC and Solana, the distribution opportunity is access to Samsung's existing device base, rather than a standalone crypto product. Samsung says it plans to expand the service to more markets, subject to local regulation. The initial launch is limited to eligible U.S. Galaxy users.
