XRP Ledger Batch Upgrade Delayed Until Oct. 9

The reset shows how a brief loss of validator backing can postpone XRPL features, including tools designed for atomic tokenized-asset trades and delegated account tasks.

XRP Ledger’s Batch upgrade now has an earliest activation date of Oct. 9, after validator support briefly fell below the required 80% threshold and reset its two-week countdown. The feature would let users bundle up to eight transactions, including an all-or-nothing exchange of payment for a tokenized asset.

Why it matters

XRPL upgrades need support from more than 80% of trusted validators for two consecutive weeks. If support drops below that level, the accumulated time is wiped, even if validator votes recover soon afterward. Batch regained support from 30 of 35 trusted validators on Sept. 25, restarting the clock.

The feature is already a second attempt. Developers withdrew its original version after finding a critical signature-checking flaw before activation. The corrected BatchV1_1 implementation shipped in August with version 3.3.0 of the ledger software. RippleX engineering head Ayo Akinyele has said projects are being built with Batch in mind, but did not name partners or give launch dates.

Market impact

The delay pushes back a network capability aimed at making tokenized-asset settlement atomic: either the payment and asset transfer both complete, or neither does. The upgrade’s earliest activation is around 14:46 UTC on Oct. 9, provided validator support holds.

A separate XRPL upgrade, PermissionDelegationV1_1, also lost qualifying support. It would let account owners authorize specific tasks without sharing signing keys, and could activate as early as Oct. 8 around 21:25 UTC after support returned. The two delays put validator coordination, rather than a fixed launch schedule, at the center of XRPL’s upgrade timeline.

Frequently asked questions

  1. Why was XRP Ledger’s Batch upgrade delayed?

Validator support briefly fell below the required 80% threshold. Because XRPL upgrades need more than 80% support for two consecutive weeks, the drop reset Batch’s countdown.

  2. What does the Batch upgrade allow users to do?

Batch would let users submit up to eight transactions together. Its all-or-nothing option could combine payment and delivery of a tokenized asset in one operation.

  3. When could Batch activate on XRP Ledger?

Its earliest activation is Oct. 9 around 14:46 UTC, provided validator support remains above the required threshold.

  4. What happened to the first version of Batch?

Developers withdrew the original version before activation after finding a critical signature-checking flaw. The corrected implementation shipped in August with ledger software version 3.3.0.

  5. What is PermissionDelegationV1_1 designed to do?

It would let account owners authorize specific tasks without sharing signing keys. A token issuer could assign payment and compliance duties to different operational accounts.
