ARDR Ardor Rank #830
Ardor is a blockchain-as-a-service (BaaS) platform designed to let businesses and institutions deploy distributed-ledger applications without building a blockchain from scratch. Its architecture pairs a main chain, which secures the network and maintains decentralization, with a system of customizable child chains that are ready to use for specific business purposes. The platform evolved from the earlier Nxt codebase and was developed to address common limitations of first-generation blockchain platforms, including blockchain bloat, limited scalability, and the need for greater customization. ARDR is the native asset of the Ardor main chain. While transaction fees on child chains can be denominated in those chains' own tokens, those fees are ultimately settled in ARDR, giving the main-chain token a central role in the platform's economic model. Ignis, the first child chain on the network, was created as a proof of concept and a demonstration of the platform's capabilities, including smart-contract-style functionality inherited from Nxt. Categorized as infrastructure and a smart contract platform, Ardor is positioned as a flexible framework for organizations building tailored blockchain applications.
