Ethereum Foundation Cuts 20% of Staff in Major Restructuring
Roughly 54 roles are going as the Foundation reorganizes around the Mandate and a new Treasury Management Policy, signaling a narrower execution focus at the top of Ethereum's core org.
Ethereum is a decentralized, open-source blockchain platform designed to support smart contracts and decentralized applications without the control of any central authority. Often described as a programmable global computer, it allows developers to build a wide range of on-chain services, from financial protocols and NFT marketplaces to gaming platforms, using self-executing programs written primarily in Solidity. These smart contracts run on the Ethereum Virtual Machine, which is maintained by a global network of independent nodes. The native asset, Ether (ETH), functions as the network's currency. It is used to pay transaction fees, commonly referred to as gas, and must be staked by validators who propose and confirm blocks. In September 2022, Ethereum transitioned from Proof of Work to Proof of Stake through an event known as the Merge, reducing its energy consumption by more than 99 percent. An earlier upgrade, EIP-1559, introduced a fee-burning mechanism that can offset issuance during periods of high activity. Ethereum was proposed in 2013 by Vitalik Buterin, alongside several co-founders, and launched in July 2015. It belongs to the Smart Contract Platform and Layer 1 categories, and remains the largest ecosystem for decentralized application development.

A 40% spending cut this year is the number, but the real signal is Vitalik framing the EF as a 5%-spend endowment by 2030 while nine senior figures have walked out since January.
The layoff lands as EF consolidates from a sprawling org into five clusters tied to its mandate. Departing staff get a severance floor at one month per year, plus transition grants.
The 54-person reduction lands alongside nine senior departures in six months and a separate institutional push led by SharpLink, BitMine, and Joseph Lubin, exposing fault lines inside the ecosystem's…
The Foundation is collapsing its old pods into five protocol-facing clusters plus an ops arm, a structural reset that lands as ETH trades under macro and competitive pressure.
BTC products bled in 11 of 14 June sessions and ETH added another $200M in outflows, while $74M of total altcoin inflow looked less like a rotation than a thin floor of category-specific conviction…
Both flagship spot ETF complexes printed net outflows on the same session, a rare synchronized pullback that suggests institutional desks were trimming exposure across the board rather than rotating…
The new lab frames itself around the settlement-layer thesis and is taking on protocol R&D that has historically sat with the Ethereum Foundation and a handful of client teams.
The protocol is back online with every Asgard vault and keyshare re-verified, and native Monero swaps now in test as the next feature on the roadmap.
Bitcoin slid 2.5% to $62,300 and ether fell more than 4% while a surging DXY and crowded short-side leverage in SpaceX and XRP perpetuals confirmed sellers are now in control across most of the top…
The KOSPI halted after a single-day wipeout led by Samsung and SK Hynix, while Bitcoin broke below $63K as $714M in 24-hour liquidations compounded a spot ETF outflow streak now running $6.35B in 30…
Asia risk-off, persistent spot Bitcoin ETF outflows and a leverage flush compounded to drive the move, with ETH printing a triple bottom that is already giving way.
BitMine's $258M annualized staking revenue is more than eight times the $30M Ethereum core-dev funding gap a former Foundation contributor warned of, and ETH treasury firms are now the ones writing…
BTC has touched a level that marked the prior four cycle bottoms, and the call to act on it is coming from promotional channels, not registered advisers.
The move is broad-based: $2.24T market cap down across majors, Fear & Greed in extreme fear at 23, and Q2's $775M in stolen crypto is the second-cheapest quarter to attack on record.
The driver is no longer the Iran story or oil; bitcoin is now trading as a leveraged AI-tech bet, with a negative Coinbase premium and Strategy's STRC preferred sliding to a fresh low adding to the…
Twin executive orders split the work: DOE gets a flagship quantum machine by decade's end while every federal agency migrates to post-quantum cryptography by 2030.
Spot ETFs bleed billions while BlackRock, JPMorgan, Morgan Stanley and peers push tokenization deeper into equities, cash and ETFs, a split Edelman says is the bigger trade.
The technology works in pilots; the gap is everything around it. Books and records, compliance workflows, and 24/7 risk management have barely been touched, and a billion dollars is nothing to…
The new nonprofit surfaces as the Ethereum Foundation loses researchers and absorbs mounting public criticism, framing the next phase of Ethereum development outside its original steward.
