EU Sanctions HTX Exchange in Latest Russia Package
The exchange joins a sanctions list now read by every EU-hosted venue: the precedent is the cost of serving Russian users, not the token-level fallout.
Huobi Token (HT) is the native utility token of the Huobi cryptocurrency exchange, one of the largest centralized trading platforms in the world. Operating primarily within the Ethereum ecosystem, HT is structured as a centralized exchange (CEX) token and also extends to networks such as Near Protocol, Harmony, and Elastos Smart Contract Chain. The token was announced on January 22, 2018, and distributed over roughly two weeks to Huobi Pro users who purchased service packages, with 300 million HT (60% of the total supply) allocated during that period. The exchange deliberately framed the distribution as a service bundle rather than an initial coin offering. HT's core function is to reward platform loyalty. Holders receive discounted trading fees when using HT to pay for transactions, and the token is also paired against major cryptocurrencies for trading. The launch followed a model similar to Binance Coin, aiming to strengthen user retention and rebuild trading activity. HT's development is associated with backing from prominent venture firms, and it remains a key component of the broader exchange-based token category.
