peaq is a Layer 1 blockchain and smart contract platform designed to serve as an economic layer for machines, including robots, vehicles, sensors, devices, and AI agents, enabling them to function as autonomous economic actors across multiple networks. The ecosystem is centered on the concept of "Robot Money," referring to any medium of exchange, measure of value, or means of payment that machines can use to transact with one another. The platform is built on a three-tier architecture. The Machine Layer, anchored by peaqOS, is responsible for onboarding individual machines and giving them composable economic capabilities. The Trust Layer provides identity, coordination, validation, and reputation services that are economically secured through staked capital. The Service Layer connects machines to external service markets through a permissionless adapter framework that supports discovery, scoring, and orchestration. peaq is intentionally chain-neutral, operating as a shared trust and coordination layer that extends across existing blockchains. A machine registered through the platform can be discovered, verified, and transacted with by applications on any supported chain, allowing for portable identities, wallets, reputation, and cross-chain settlement. The project also falls within the DePIN category, focusing on decentralized infrastructure for real-world connected devices.
