Reserve Rights (RSR) is an ERC-20 token native to the Reserve protocol, a decentralized platform built primarily on Ethereum and interoperable with other networks including Arbitrum and Base. Launched in May 2019 through an initial exchange offering on Huobi Prime, RSR was created to support a family of decentralized, asset-backed stablecoins known as RTokens. The token serves two core functions within the Reserve ecosystem. First, it acts as a governance instrument, allowing holders to propose and vote on changes to the configuration of individual RTokens. Second, it functions as an overcollateralization backstop: RSR holders can stake their tokens against one or multiple RTokens, providing first-loss capital that is used to compensate stablecoin holders in the event of a default in the underlying collateral. In exchange for this risk-bearing role, stakers earn a share of the revenue generated by the RTokens they support, with potential yields generally scaling with the market capitalization of the staked RToken. Unlike many staking designs, the Reserve model does not rely on newer participants subsidizing earlier ones, nor does it require trust in third-party staking operators. The project was co-founded by Nevin Freeman and Matt Elder and is associated with the broader decentralized finance, real-world assets, and Coinbase Ventures investment categories.
