ARK is the native token of a Layer 1 blockchain platform designed to deliver a flexible and adaptable ecosystem of linked chains. The project aims to support a wide range of consumer and developer use cases by providing core blockchain services that are fast, decentralized, scalable, and open-source. The ARK Desktop Wallet is built natively for all major operating systems and connects to synced network peers, removing the need for users to download a full blockchain. The network is secured through a Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) consensus mechanism in which token holders vote to elect 51 active forging delegates from a larger pool of candidates. Each token holder may cast a single vote at a time, with voting and unvoting each costing 1 ARK, and voting power tied directly to token holdings. ARK was launched by a distributed team whose infrastructure draws on earlier projects such as Bitshares, Crypti, and Lisk, with several developers carrying experience from those earlier efforts.
