Bancor is a decentralized, open-source ecosystem of on-chain protocols designed to facilitate trading and liquidity provision. Originally launched on Ethereum, the project has evolved into a broader suite of tools governed by a decentralized autonomous organization known as BancorDAO, where holders of the BNT token participate in protocol decisions by staking their holdings. At the center of the current ecosystem is Carbon, a decentralized trading protocol that enables users to deploy automated strategies directly on-chain through customizable limit and range orders. Carbon introduces a model called asymmetric liquidity, which separates the buying and selling curves of a position. This structure allows traders to set precise price ranges for each side and to link orders together so that one automatically adjusts when the other executes. Executed orders on the protocol are irreversible, adjustable on-chain, and resistant to common forms of miner-extractable-value manipulation. Bancor also includes Fast Lane, an open-source arbitrage protocol that routes arbitrage opportunities between Bancor's protocols and external on-chain exchanges, channeling resulting profits back into the ecosystem. BNT functions as the network's native utility and governance token within the broader Ethereum and DeFi landscape.
