Factor (FACT) is a decentralized infrastructure protocol that operates on a Proof of Work (PoW) consensus mechanism known as Useful Proof of Work (uPoW). Instead of dedicating mining energy to arbitrary cryptographic hashing purely for chain security, the network channels computational effort toward integer factorization, a branch of applied mathematics that underpins modern encryption. In doing so, the protocol reframes mining as an open marketplace for solving real mathematical and cryptographic problems of interest to researchers, developers, and institutions. At its core, FACTOR introduces an on-chain bounty system where participants can post factorization challenges and reward the community for producing verified solutions.
