Geode Chain is an independent Layer 1 network paired with a native suite of decentralized applications, built to broaden access to the decentralized web for everyday users. The chain is developed using the Substrate/Polkadot SDK and operates on a Nominated Proof of Stake design, combining the BABE block production mechanism with the GRANDPA finality gadget. It targets a throughput of roughly 1,000 transactions per second at the base layer, with capacity intended to scale further as additional Layer 2 chains are introduced, while keeping fees low and achieving finality in about six seconds. The project began in February 2022. Its accompanying dApp suite spans social networking with user-monetized feeds, encrypted disappearing messaging, a peer-to-peer marketplace, resume and intellectual property registration, surveys, a domain name service, cross-chain dApp discovery, AI user agents, and blockchain-based gaming. The native token, GEODE, supports activity across this ecosystem of appchain-oriented Layer 1 services.
