Liberland LLD is the native utility token of the Liberland Blockchain, a Layer 1 public network built as a fork of Substrate/Polkadot and distributed under the MIT License. The project originated from the founding of Liberland in 2015 as a self-declared microstate situated on unclaimed land between Croatia and Serbia, with its creators drawing on blockchain technology and libertarian principles to build governance infrastructure. The blockchain is designed to deliver e-government services to citizens, with decentralized governance serving as its first practical application. The network is held by holders of LLD but governed by holders of a companion token, Liberland Merit (LLM), establishing a separation between ownership and decision-making authority. Beyond governance, the chain supports non-fungible tokens representing land and other assets, implements a decentralized identity system, and permits permissionless use of tokens for value storage and exchange. DeFi projects operate on an open basis unless individual developers designate them as restricted. Planned future features include an online judiciary functioning as an oracle for self-executing contracts, along with mechanisms for account recovery and fraud recourse.
