Aave Horizon Adds Weekend Pricing for Tokenized Stocks

Perpetual-futures quotes keep collateral valuations moving while stock exchanges are shut, but an oracle price alone cannot guarantee a buyer or a recoverable exit.

Aave Horizon is using Chainlink’s new weekend pricing service for tokenized stock collateral, starting with high-volume U.S. equities. Announced Oct. 29, the service draws on perpetual-futures venues when traditional exchanges are closed, providing a reference price without implying that stock trades occurred during the weekend.

Why it matters

For borrowers, a weekend price decline could reduce the value supporting a loan and push a position across its liquidation threshold before the underlying exchange reopens, if the feed is incorporated into the market’s risk rules. For lenders in Horizon’s stablecoin pools, the valuation may make deteriorating collateral visible sooner.

Horizon is Aave’s separate institutional lending instance. Only participants qualified and allowlisted by an asset’s issuer can supply its tokenized real-world assets and borrow against them. Suppliers to stablecoin pools including USDC, RLUSD and GHO are unrestricted. Collateral requirements and liquidation thresholds vary by asset.

Market impact

Chainlink says its service uses existing weekday data during regular, extended and overnight sessions, then draws weekend quotes from multiple perpetual-futures venues. It filters stale inputs, limits outlier influence and delivers a continuous price series to lending protocols through onchain Data Feeds.

The price reference does not itself provide a buyer or redemption access. Debt recovery still depends on whether collateral can be realized. The announcement does not identify the initial equity tokens, feed addresses or equity-specific liquidation settings. It also does not establish a change to Aave’s separate Base Equities Hub, whose September description listed seven Coinbase stock tokens and feeds that held their last value over weekends.

Frequently asked questions

  1. Where do weekend prices for Horizon’s tokenized equities come from?

When traditional exchanges are closed, Chainlink draws quotes from multiple perpetual-futures venues. Those quotes reflect derivatives markets, not trades on a closed stock exchange.

  2. How could a weekend price change affect an Aave Horizon borrower?

If the feed is incorporated into the market’s risk rules, a decline could reduce the value backing a loan and push a position across its liquidation threshold before the underlying exchange reopens.

  3. Who can supply tokenized real-world assets to Aave Horizon?

Only participants qualified and allowlisted by the asset’s issuer can supply its tokenized real-world assets and borrow against them.

  4. Can stablecoin lenders freely supply liquidity to Horizon?

Yes. Horizon’s stablecoin pools, including USDC, RLUSD and GHO, accept liquidity from unrestricted suppliers.

  5. Does Chainlink’s weekend price feed guarantee repayment to lenders?

No. The feed provides a price reference, not a buyer or redemption access. Debt recovery depends on whether the collateral can be realized.
