Bitcoin ETFs End Week Nearly Flat as Ether Funds Lose $140M

Friday buying kept bitcoin funds barely positive, while ether ETFs reversed a four-week inflow run despite a late-week rebound.

U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs recorded a $433 million inflow on Friday, leaving the group with a $6.2 million net inflow for the week ending Sept. 18. Ether ETFs posted a $140 million weekly outflow, ending a four-week streak that had brought in a combined $1.94 billion.

Why it matters

Bitcoin funds absorbed $462.7 million of outflows the previous week, but the latest result was still barely positive after heavy withdrawals on Tuesday and Wednesday. Friday's buying was the category's largest daily inflow since Sept. 3, with Fidelity's FBTC taking in $310.7 million and BlackRock's IBIT adding $108.4 million.

Bitcoin ETF net flows remain about $1.45 billion lower for the year, although cumulative inflows since launch stand at $55.16 billion and net assets reached $102.53 billion. Ether ETFs remain positive for the year with roughly $922 million in net inflows and $16.72 billion in net assets.

Market impact

The weekly split points to uneven institutional demand rather than a broad-based ETF flow trend. Bitcoin funds finished the week barely above zero after Friday's recovery, while ether products could not offset $404.8 million drained across Tuesday through Thursday. BlackRock's ETHA drew $114.3 million on Friday but still ended the week down $56.1 million, while Fidelity's FETH lost $25.8 million.

Trading activity increased across both categories. Bitcoin ETF volume rose to $16.17 billion from $8.77 billion the prior week, while ether ETF volume climbed to $6.82 billion from $5.14 billion. The prior period included one fewer trading session because of Labor Day.
