XRP Ledger Tops 5B Transactions as Bots Drive 92%

The 5.06B milestone is less decisive than it looks: 767 machine-classified accounts generated 92% of August traffic, while settled DEX trades totaled 2.97M.

Bitquery counted 81.56 million XRP Ledger transactions in August, with 793 sender accounts generating 75.98 million, or 93.2%, of the month's total. Of those accounts, 767 were classified as machines and produced 92% of all activity, while 26 exchange hot wallets added 1.1%. The ledger has passed 5.06 billion validated transactions, but that milestone alone cannot distinguish automated throughput from economic use. One address placed 12.79 million DEX orders and converted just 882 into trades.

Why it matters

XRPL's activity is heavily automated and concentrated. Bitquery counted 2.97 million settled trades from 12,153 accounts in August, versus more than 81 million total transactions. DEX order bots generated 39.25 million transactions, or 48.1% of traffic, while dust-spraying accounts added 18.79 million. Nearly half of active accounts sent once, and four-fifths sent five or fewer.

The data measures addresses, not individual users. An exchange wallet can represent thousands of customers, while one trading firm can control several addresses. That makes the concentration signal real but harder to translate directly into user adoption.

Market impact

Evernorth found order-book volume averaged 3.57 million XRP a day in Q2, up 79% year over year, even as daily initiating accounts fell to 1,111 from 1,864. Average volume per trading account rose to 3,217 XRP from 1,072. Broader DEX trading averaged 4.42 million XRP a day, up 20%.

Average XRPL value reached $4.26 billion, while RLUSD balances averaged $539 million, up 642%, and value moved through RLUSD rose 925%. The test for XRP is sustained settled trades, recurring participants and liquidity routed through XRP, rather than more automated throughput.

Frequently asked questions

  1. How concentrated was XRPL activity in August?

Bitquery found 793 sender accounts generated 75.98 million of 81.56 million August transactions, or 93.2%. The 767 machine-classified accounts among them produced 92% of all activity.

  2. How large was the gap between XRPL orders and settled trades?

  4. What happened to XRPL order-book volume and participation?

Order-book volume averaged 3.57 million XRP a day in Q2, up 79% year over year, while daily initiating accounts fell to 1,111 from 1,864. Average volume per account rose to 3,217 XRP from 1,072.

  5. What would make XRPL's activity more meaningful for XRP?
