Bitcoin ETF Inflows Sink 97% as BTC Faces $84K Resistance

Eight straight days of net ETF inflows remain intact, but the shrinking bid leaves less demand to absorb long-term-holder supply clustered between $84,000 and $85,000.

US spot Bitcoin ETFs drew $31.07 million in net inflows on Sept. 28, the weakest session in an eight-day streak. BlackRock’s IBIT led with $54.84 million, adding about 657 BTC and lifting holdings above 800,000 BTC for the first time since May 26. The daily total is about 97% below the nearly $1 billion recorded at the start of last week.

Why it matters

The slowdown comes after a much stronger weekly picture: spot Bitcoin funds took in $2.4 billion last week, their biggest weekly haul of 2026 and largest since October 2025. That brought year-to-date net flows back into positive territory, at about $1.01 billion, after funds were roughly $5.8 billion in the red in July. Month-to-date inflows reached $2.73 billion.

Bitcoin has retreated from above $87,000 and is trading around $84,000, where Glassnode identifies a heavy concentration of long-term-holder cost basis between $84,000 and $85,000. Holders returning to breakeven or profit could add selling pressure in that zone.

Market impact

ETF demand helped absorb selling during Bitcoin’s roughly 4% advance last week, even as perpetual-futures traders and profit-takers sold into the move. Monday’s inflow was worth fewer than 400 BTC at around $84,000, versus more than 11,000 BTC for the nearly $1 billion intake at similar prices. ETF flows do not translate one-for-one into same-day spot buying, but the comparison shows how much the marginal institutional bid has weakened.

A pickup in ETF demand could help Bitcoin absorb supply at $84,000 to $85,000. Continued shrinking inflows, or a turn to outflows, would leave the price zone harder to clear.

Frequently asked questions

  1. How much did US spot Bitcoin ETFs attract on Sept. 28?

They recorded $31.07 million in net inflows, the weakest session in an eight-day positive-flow streak.

  2. Which fund led ETF inflows that day?

BlackRock’s IBIT led with $54.84 million, adding about 657 BTC and taking its holdings above 800,000 BTC for the first time since May 26.

  3. Why is the $84,000 to $85,000 range significant for Bitcoin?

Glassnode identifies it as the price zone with the heaviest concentration of long-term-holder cost basis, potentially creating selling pressure as holders return to breakeven or profit.

  4. How did the latest daily inflow compare with last week’s peak?

The $31.07 million intake was about 97% below the nearly $1 billion recorded at the start of last week.

  5. What could help Bitcoin move through the supply zone?

A renewed pickup in ETF buying could help absorb supply between $84,000 and $85,000. Continued shrinking inflows or outflows would leave less institutional demand to support that effort.
