A CoinDesk-commissioned survey of 1,000 registered voters across the U.S. found that 533 of the 849 respondents who answered a question about crypto held a less favorable view of the industry. The other 316 said their impression was more favorable. The poll was conducted in April.

Why it matters

The responses point to a public-trust challenge beyond the crypto sector's existing users. Favorable views were often tied to investment returns, Bitcoin's transparency, or the belief that crypto could hedge against inflation. Skeptical voters cited volatility, fraud, limited regulation, usability and uncertainty about whether crypto is real money. Some said they knew too little about it to form a favorable view, while others worried about losing access to funds if they forgot a password.

Views also differed by party. Among Republican-aligned respondents, 178 had a favorable impression and 212 an unfavorable one. Among Democrats, 88 were favorable and 233 unfavorable. Independents were also more likely to view crypto unfavorably, by 88 to 54. Younger voters were generally more favorable than older voters, though respondents aged 18 to 24 were slightly more likely to be unfavorable: 24 versus 20.

Market impact

The findings do not measure investor demand or predict policy outcomes, but they show how trust and perceived usefulness may shape crypto's path to broader adoption. Concerns about fraud, regulation and practical payments sit alongside positive views of crypto as an investment or inflation hedge.

The survey also recorded unfavorable views tied to concerns about government tracking and asset seizures, as well as President Donald Trump and his family's crypto business ties. Those politically charged concerns may matter as voters approach the U.S. midterms, scheduled to conclude Nov. 3. The poll captures voter sentiment, not an election result or a forecast of regulatory action.
