Luxor Raises $16M to Expand Into AI Compute

The financing marks a strategic pivot from Bitcoin mining services toward AI hardware, cloud workloads, energy management and compute-linked financial products.

CMT Digital led a $16 million investment round for Luxor Technology, a Bitcoin mining infrastructure firm expanding into AI infrastructure. Canaan, MicroBT, Halo, Steelhead and unnamed angel investors also participated. The round included primary and secondary capital, with proceeds supporting Luxor's growth, hardware business, cloud platform and compute derivatives operations.

Luxor began raising the capital in August and closed the round in October. The company did not disclose its valuation or the exact split between primary and secondary funding. Its last priced equity round was in 2021, while total primary capital raised before this deal stood at $6.575 million. Headcount has since grown from 11 to 106, largely through cash generated by the business.

Why it matters

Luxor's September launch of Luxor AI formalizes a wider shift in the economics of compute. The company is carrying capabilities built for Bitcoin miners into AI hardware sourcing, cloud computing, energy services and financial contracts. Its Bitcoin business includes a mining pool, mining software, hardware trading, energy services and hashrate derivatives.

The overlap is practical. Luxor co-founder Nick Hansen said the same miners, power sites and capital that served digital mining are increasingly powering AI. The firm's hardware desk has traded more than $1 billion in specialized mining equipment, while its energy business services more than 75 megawatts across ERCOT and SPP power markets.

Market impact

The funding gives Luxor more capacity to source GPUs and AI servers, expand its cloud platform and develop compute-market products. Luxor Cloud provides sandboxes and runners for AI agents, as well as AI code review, and had run 1.8 million workloads as of September.

Luxor is also funding an over-the-counter desk offering cash-settled options, forwards and backstops tied to compute-rental indexes. Its AI Hardware Price Index tracks GPU node prices. The company plans to hire about 12 people across engineering, product, sales and marketing, positioning Bitcoin infrastructure as a distribution and financial-services layer for growing AI demand.
