SEC opens 60-day comment window to widen novel crypto ETF rules
The same 'ETF rule' that auto-approved spot BTC and ETH products is now on the table, with Atkins asking whether non-security assets can sit inside an investment company wrapper.
Ethereum is a decentralized, open-source blockchain platform designed to support smart contracts and decentralized applications without the control of any central authority. Often described as a programmable global computer, it allows developers to build a wide range of on-chain services, from financial protocols and NFT marketplaces to gaming platforms, using self-executing programs written primarily in Solidity. These smart contracts run on the Ethereum Virtual Machine, which is maintained by a global network of independent nodes. The native asset, Ether (ETH), functions as the network's currency. It is used to pay transaction fees, commonly referred to as gas, and must be staked by validators who propose and confirm blocks. In September 2022, Ethereum transitioned from Proof of Work to Proof of Stake through an event known as the Merge, reducing its energy consumption by more than 99 percent. An earlier upgrade, EIP-1559, introduced a fee-burning mechanism that can offset issuance during periods of high activity. Ethereum was proposed in 2013 by Vitalik Buterin, alongside several co-founders, and launched in July 2015. It belongs to the Smart Contract Platform and Layer 1 categories, and remains the largest ecosystem for decentralized application development.

A public-comment request for "novel ETFs" lands as prediction-market funds tied to political and economic outcomes keep knocking at the SEC's door.
68K $ETH (≈106.3M) moved from unknown wallet to unknown wallet.
The desk's read is that capitulation is underway but the bid hasn't returned, with ETF outflows and a fading AI rotation leaving crypto exposed to a stronger dollar and higher-for-longer rates.
The wallet that began as a browser extension is now positioning itself as a full-stack consumer finance app, folding lending protocols, payments rails, and perps into a single balance on the Monad…
SharpLink is now the largest corporate ETH holder on record, and the simultaneous SBET buyback signals conviction while peers still debate treasury strategy.
SharpLink is now the second-largest public ETH treasury by a wide margin, and the $75M raise plus 2.13M share buyback signals management is still leaning in on per-share ETH exposure rather than…
ETH closed Q2 2026 down 25.2%, capping a drawdown that has now erased six months of returns. The chart has rarely looked this broken in the asset's listed history.
Bitmine held its position through the selloff while SharpLink accumulated, two institutional bids that front-run the same thesis Lee pitched on chain: portfolio trims were cosmetic, the long-term…
The plan would retire remaining elliptic-curve dependencies, add Falcon-512 signatures, and ship migration tooling for live contracts, positioning Starknet ahead of peers still hashing out quantum…
Two large deposits in a single session do not, by themselves, signal intent, but the dual-asset flow sits inside a pattern of prime-broker repositioning that institutional desks have been reading all…
The headline outflow is brutal, but the breakdown matters more: BlackRock's IBIT alone accounted for $1.3B of the exit, with $448M in leveraged longs wiped out alongside.
The structural cost is that options desks are still bidding for downside even as implied volatility keeps printing muted; that divergence between hedges and vol is what historically resolved…
The outflows land against a backdrop of thin weekend flows and a year-to-date lead for ETH products that has narrowed sharply since the May peak.
The yen move is the macro tell, not the price tag: a 40-year low in JPY forces a global unwind of carry trades funded in yen, and crypto is taking the spillover alongside equities.
It's not a sale yet, but Strategy's reversal of Saylor's never-sell stance meets a 40-year-low yen and a thin on-chain tape, leaving the market with no obvious lift.
The move is small in dollar terms but signals a tactical rotation out of a recently hyped perps venue and back into the majors, exactly the kind of smart-money tell on-chain desks track.
Wall Street's biggest US bank just endorsed digital-asset legislation while Michael Saylor's treasury arm rolled out a credit plan to manage its $55B Bitcoin stack, even as BTC slipped below $60K.
Smart-contract exploits keep grabbing headlines, but the bulk of stolen funds trace back to compromised keys and operational gaps, a structural risk MPC and account abstraction are now trying to…
Strategy stayed on the sidelines last week while two ETH-focused treasuries added 66,280 ETH between them, a signal that the institutional bid is rotating, not retreating, with stablecoin supply…
