Open Campus (EDU) is a decentralized protocol built to address structural shortcomings in the education sector by giving teachers, content creators, parents, students, and co-publishers a shared on-chain framework for producing and distributing learning material. The project originated in 2023 with support from partners including Animoca Brands, The Sandbox, and TinyTap, and operates across the BNB Chain, Polygon, and Ethereum ecosystems, having been launched through Binance Launchpad with backing from YZi Labs (formerly Binance Labs). The protocol's defining feature is its use of NFT technology to let educators and content creators publish, own, and monetize their work. A flagship product, the Publisher NFT, was adopted by TinyTap and used in an auction that generated 243 ETH in sales. The EDU token powers activities within the EDU Foundation, including a peer review system for educational content, smart donations, the buying and selling of Publisher NFTs, and the administration of scholarship grants. The project's roadmap emphasizes expanding its creator marketplace alongside these foundation-level features, positioning the token at the center of a community-governed model for educational content.
