Premier David Burt took the stage at Consensus Miami 2026 to announce Bermuda's next USDC airdrop, tied to the upcoming Bermuda Digital Finance Forum 2026. Residents will receive stablecoins via wallets and spend them at onboarded local merchants — a live test of whether stablecoin rails can replace card networks and traditional banking for everyday commerce.

The core argument is economic: small businesses on the island face high transaction fees and limited access to financial apps that larger markets take for granted. Burt's 'onchain economy' initiative, launched in January with Circle and Coinbase, is designed to close that gap by building payment infrastructure in parallel — merchants and government services going live together rather than sequentially.
